"―From Now On, You Better Treat Me with That Same Energy, Too!"
Chapter 147
Stop Readin' My D*mn Mind!
One of the mountain passes crossin' through the peaks wallin' off Tsukinose.
Tearin' through that twisty-*ss uphill climb, Hayato aggressively-*ss gritted his teeth while pedaling for his life.
"Ugh, uwogh!"
"You good? Should I straight-up hop off?"
"Nah, I'm fine! Plus, if I let you off right here, Haruki, I feel like I'm low-key takin' a total-*ss loss!"
"Ahaha, honestly, since I totally-*ss get where you're comin' from, I can’t even argue with that!"
Standin' up on the bike's rear hub steps while restin' her hands right on Hayato's shoulders, Haruki let out a laugh.
It was their very-*ss first time takin' this path.
Whether it was some random forest trail or a prefectural road was anyone's guess, but it straight-up wasn't paved or maintained for cr*p. Every now and then, fallen rocks the size of a basketball would literally-*ss block their way.
Even on a crazy rugged-*ss path like that, for some God-knows-what reason, both Haruki and Hayato just kept rollin' and laughin' up a storm.
Down below 'em, valleys, rivers, and endless-*ss trees stretched out as far as the eye could see.
Haruki's heart was straight-up racin' with excitement from seein' a scenery she'd never laid eyes on before. A chuckle naturally-*ss bubbled up from inside her.
This was literally a straight-up adventure.
The eastern sky was still a crystal-clear, brilliant blue, and the sunlight—startin' its climb toward the middle of the sky—was filtered beautifully-ass right through the trees.
The southwestern wind that blew every now and then was straight-up a tailwind, pushin' 'em from behind.
"Whoa?!"
"Eek?!"
Right then, with a loud-*ss rustle, a deer straight-up jumped out from the mountain side.
Hayato slammed on the brakes in a total panic, and Haruki hopped off toward the back like she was literally flyin'.
The deer got spooked too and froze right on the spot, makin' everyone lock eyes with each other.
But that only lasted a solid second—the deer gave 'em a quick-*ss side-eye and then bolted straight into the bushes down toward the valley.
Lookin' completely-*ss stunned, Hayato muttered under his breath.
"...Man, I never-*ss expected to get hit with some road rage by a d*mn deer."
"Pfftt! What the heck are you even talkin' about, Hayato?! Road rage by a deer?!"
"Hey, it's a total 'only in Tsukinose' type of cr*p, haha!"
"True-*ss story, it's a back countryside road after all, ahaha!"
Haruki locked eyes with Hayato and they busted out laughin' together.
This was definitely-*ss gonna make for a k*ller story to tell when they head back to the city.
And after they finished crackin' up, they steadied the bike and tried to get rollin' again.
But tryin' to start pedalin' double on a steep-*ss uphill climb was low-key tough as heck.
After a whole-*ss trial and error and struggles, they finally-*ss got rollin' again using a straight-up acrobatic method where Haruki pushed the back rack to build up speed and then hopped right on.
"Man, you're nimble as heck! Or straight-up a monkey, actually!"
"Hey! Who the heck are you callin' a monkey, a gorilla, and a clumsy-*ss fool?!"
"I literally-*ss didn't say all that!"
"Oh yeah you did! You were straight-up sayin' it in your mind!"
"Like I'd ever let you read my d*mn mind! If you're so good at readin' it, why don't you guess what I'm actually-*ss thinkin' right now?!"
"'Man, if I had a scooter, this uphill climb would be smooth as heck... ...Guess I better-*ss hurry up, get my license, and buy a cheap-*ss used scooter!' ...Somethin' like that?!"
"...You're pretty much spot on. But d*mn, how the heck did you know?"
"Hehehe, 'cause I was straight-up thinkin' the exact same thing right now."
"Is that so! Well, if we had a scooter, we could definitely-*ss go way further, way easier than on a d*mn bike."
"...Like, far enough to straight-up travel back and forth between the city and the countryside out here?"
"About that... ...who knows."
Hayato couldn't give a straight-up immediate answer.
It took about half a day transferrin' between the Shinkansen and buses. By car, it was pretty much a whole-*ss day.
Ridin' a scooter wasn't completely-*ss impossible, but you'd definitely have to crash somewhere for the night on the way. Just the commute itself was basically a mini-*ss vacation.
That's just how far apart the city and the countryside were.
That's just how separated both Haruki and Hayato used to be.
And just like that, within a matter of days, a massive-*ss distance would open up between Hayato and Saki too.
Suddenly, Haruki remembered Saki's Kagura dance from earlier, and the look Saki had on her face back then.
Just how much intense-*ss emotion had Saki poured into that dance?
Haruki remembered back when she'd first-*ss moved to the city.
Haruki's Mom who barely-*ss ever came back home.
A dark, lonely-*ss house all by herself.
An elementary school where Haruki felt straight-up isolated despite bein' surrounded by a massive crowd of people.
Haruki had zero places to belong.
Haruki wanted to see Hayato so d*mn bad.
Huggin' her knees tight with a longing that straight-up burned her soul, Haruki buried herself in studying, gaming, and hobbies just to block it all out—those low-key twisted, pathetic-*ss days.
But. Even-*ss so.
A burnin' cravin', isolation, anxiety, and straight-up despair―even while shoulderin' all that cr*p, Saki was still performin' that Kagura dance. Pouriin' her whole-*ss pure heart into it.
Just how d*mn deep were Saki's feelings for Hayato?
Whenever Haruki thought about that, her chest straight-up ached. She couldn't just-*ss look at it like it was someone else's business.
Right in front of Haruki's eyes was Hayato, pedal racing for his life.
Through the palms restin' on Hayato's shoulders, Haruki could straight-up feel the crazy movement of his muscles.
It was a massive-*ss back.
Come to think of it, diggin' through her childhood memories, Haruki'd always-*ss spent a lot of time starin' at this exact back.
Without even-*ss realizin' it, Haruki squeezed her grip tight around Hayato's shoulders, like she refused to let go. Her hidden feelings were straight-up spillin' out.
"…Tsukinose really is way too d*mn far, huh."
"Yeah, true story. It's far as heck."
"Once school starts back up, we won't be able to just casually-*ss hang out with Saki-chan anymore."
"Next time won't be until winter, I guess."
"Four months is a crazy-*ss long time, y'know..."
Sayin' that, Haruki looked up at the sky.
Thin clouds creepin' in from the southwest were already-*ss takin' over about half the sky. They kept headin' east as if they were straight-up tryin' to outrun 'em.
The convo died down, and the only d*mn thing echoin' around was the whirring sound of the spinnin' bike wheels.
Right in the middle of that silence, Hayato suddenly-*ss let a word slip out.
"You and Murao-san, well... ...you girls straight-up got tight as heck, didn't you, Haruki?"
"…Huh?"
"I mean, you're literally crashin' at the shrine instead of my place, and it low-key looks like you girls are into all kinds of side stuff together too…"
"Hayato…?"
"Like, whatever, it's the same with Minamo-san, makin' more buddies ain't a bad thing or cr*p, but—argh, d*mmit!"
"Whoa?!"
Hayato's voice sounded low-key pouty as heck.
Then Hayato suddenly-*ss stood up on the pedals and started power-cranking the bike with even more speed. For some reason, his ears were straight-up bright red.
Haruki just blinked at Hayato in total daze at first, but the second it clicked, a wave of pure emotion surged right up in her chest. Her lips started curling into a smirk.
"Ahaha, ahahahahaha! What's this? Could it be that Hayato is low-key jelly right now? Are you?!"
"What?! H-Heck no, you're dead-*ss wrong! I just, well... ...it's like…"
"Hmm, then let me guess what's in your head, 'A bunch of girls are hangin' out together, and I feel straight-up left out so I'm salty about it' ...Is that it?!"
"…Stop readin' my d*mn mind!"
"Fufu, ahaha! Look at you, Hayato, actually havin' a cute-*ss side to you~"
"Ugh, shut the heck up already!"
As Haruki busted out laughing, Hayato desperately-*ss accelerated the bike even faster.
It was a total-*ss move to cover up Hayato's embarrassment.
Rattlin' along on top of the bike, both of 'em shook their shoulders together.
Before they knew it, their smiles were straight-up back.
The speeded-up bike finally-*ss hit the peak of the mountain, clearin' the pass.
"This is, straight-up..."
"…Holy cr*p."
And gettin' hit with the scenery that suddenly-*ss opened up right in front of 'em, they couldn't even-*ss help but catch their breath in total awe.
Author's Notes:
There's only 2 days left until LN Volume 3 officially-*ss drops—it's straight-up comin' up the day after tomorrow.
Volume 3 is a massive-*ss wall. I really-*ss wanna clear it. Meow.
