"―From Now On, You Better Treat Me with That Same Energy, Too!"
Chapter 145
I'm Straight-Up Not Feeling This Cr*p!
"...What the heck am I even doing?"
After boltin' from the shrine, Haruki was straight-up wanderin' around Tsukinose with zero-*ss destination in mind.
Unlike the city, the unpaved-*ss roads out here had pebbles rollin' all over the place.
Haruki casually-*ss kicked one that caught her eye with the tip of her foot, watchin' it vanish right into the weeds by the path.
Lettin' out a heavy-*ss sigh, "Haa...", Haruki looked up at the sky, watchin' the crazy clear blue northern sky gettin' slowly eaten away by thin clouds rollin' in with the humid-*ss air from the southwest.
The sunlight was weak as heck, and the countryside was eerie-*ss quiet.
Haruki happened to pass by the chicken coop that was usually loud as heck, but even though you could tell they were inside, it was dead-silent.
"...Oh."
Haruki was supposed to be walkin' around with zero-*ss destination.
Yet, here Haruki was at the crossroads where five different-*ss paths splittin' through Tsukinose met—a corner of an empty lot where the countryside's one and only mailbox stood.
Haruki squeezed her hand tight over her chest, wrinklin' up her shirt.
This place was where little Haruki used to come when she was lookin' for a place to go, but couldn't go anywhere, just sittin' there huggin' her knees.
And―
"Haruki?"
"Haya-to...?"
Right then, the screech of bike brakes echoed through the air.
Haruki looked toward the sound, and there was Hayato.
Both of 'em looked totally-*ss stunned, eyes blinkin' like they'd just been spooked out of their minds.
"What the heck are you doin' out this early? On a walk? Though you're straight-up dressed in pajamas, I see."
"Hmm, ahaha, just felt like it, y'know? What about you, Hayato? Why are you out this early?"
"I was worryin' about Old Man Gen's garden. Look, he lives alone, so whenever there's a typhoon, I always-*ss help him get prepped."
"Hee, is that so? That's so Hayato of you."
"What the heck is that supposed to mean?"
"Exactly what I said, aha!"
Haruki let out a little chuckle.
Haruki peeked into the bike basket and saw a pair of work gloves and a hand trowel that looked like Hayato's own gear.
Hayato furrowed his brows, lookin' puzzled.
"Come to think of it, Minamo-chan was sayin' she was gonna do some typhoon prep too. Hey, what exactly do you even-*ss do for that kind of prep?"
"Packin' down the dirt so the seedlings don't get knocked over, clearin' the drainage, settin' up windbreak nets, reinforcin' the support stakes, and harvestin' whatever's ready to go—well, a bunch of random-*ss stuff."
"Oh, gotcha~"
Haruki crossed her arms, noddin' along.
Just hearin' about it sounded like a total-*ss pain.
Which meant that having extra hands on deck would straight-up not go to waste.
Besides, Haruki'd bolted from the shrine without leavin' a single d*mn word.
Sayin' Haruki was out helpin' with the garden's typhoon prep would make for a way better-*ss excuse when she finally went back to Saki's place.
"Hey, Haya... ...Haya-to...?"
When Haruki looked up and turned around, she noticed that Hayato's gaze was locked onto the spot right next to the mailbox.
The way Hayato was lookin' at it was crazy serious and sharp, but with this heavy-*ss hint of nostalgia mixed in, makin' Haruki's heart straight-up skip a beat.
"...."
"...."
For some reason, they straight-up couldn't find the words to say anything anymore.
Both of 'em just stared at the spot in dead silence.
They were definitely-*ss thinkin' about the exact same thing.
"Man, this is where I first-*ss ran into you back in the day, huh."
"...Yeah, I remember it crazy-*ss well."
"In a way, this is pretty much the most eye-catching spot in all of Tsukinose."
"Sittin' here huggin' my knees like I was straight-up beggin' for attention, I looked like a total-*ss idiot, didn't I?"
"When I first saw you, I was literally like, 'Who the heck is this person?'."
"...Ahaha."
Hayato let out a wry-*ss chuckle as he spoke.
Remindin' herself of how she used to be, Haruki's face turned bright red as she let out a forced-ass laugh too.
You could just chalk it up to bein' a kid, but lookin' back, Haruki thought she was actin' straight-up childish as heck.
It was painful, suffocatin', and Haruki couldn't trust a d*mn thing—yet she desperately-*ss wanted someone to save her.
Back then, Haruki had zero clue what else to do besides just mopin' around right here.
And what the heck did Haruki even-*ss think when Hayato first called out to her?
"Back then, y'know, I straight-up hated your vibe."
"Hayato?"
"Like, why the heck did you have that look on your face like you'd already-*ss given up? Why were you shiftin' around with that miserable-*ss aura? It completely-*ss ticked me off."
"That's…"
Out of nowhere, Hayato leaned in close to peek at Haruki's face.
With those exact same crazy serious, sharp-*ss eyes that were totally painted with nostalgia.
And after locking eyes for a solid-*ss second, a mischievous smirk split across Hayato's face.
"And for some reason, I straight-up hate the way you're actin' right now too, Haruki!"
"Myah?!"
Haruki's arm was snatched by force, and she got yanked right toward Hayato.
And before Haruki could even-*ss process gettin' shoved onto the back rack of the bike, Hayato started pedalin' away, completely-*ss ignorin' how confused she was.
"Hold on tight, yo!"
"Hayato~~?!"
Author's Notes:
I straight-up got my second vaccine shot yesterday.
Got a low-grade fever draggin' me down, so I'm totally-*ss exhausted.
The next chapter might be a tiny-*ss bit late.
Lookin' through Twitter (Now: X), I keep seein' stuff about side effects like cats suddenly crowdin' around you, cats actin' all clingy, or your cat's appetite straight-up explodin'.
Man, I really-*ss hope I get one of those side effects too.
Meow.
Translator's Notes:
This chapter released back in 2021, so this could be related to COVID-19, idk.
