Part Four
"―From Now On, You Better Treat Me with That Same Energy, Too!"
Chapter 165
Straight-Up Bein' Honest with Your Own Heart

Saki's brain was straight-up hittin' its limit from total panic.

"Th-The little fox, I mean, Hime-chan always told me it straight-up looked a ton like my hair color!"

"O-Oh, I see, yeah. Oh, but since this whole thing looks so d*mn cute, if I end up using it and getting it dirty, I'd just feel completely-*ss cr*ppy about it, or like…"

"I-If that happens, I'll definitely-*ss get another one ready for you next year!"

"―!? Oh, wow, next year too, huh…"

"Sh-Should I straight-up change it to somethin' else then?!"

"That's not what I d*mn meant at all!"

"Oh!"

"…"

"…"

And then, yet another heavy-*ss silence settled right between them.

For a while now, with the apron held between them, they'd just been repeating this awkward-*ss convo that kept spinnin' its wheels without making any d*mn sense.

To Saki, this exact-*ss situation was somethin' she couldn't have even pictured in her wildest dreams just three weeks ago.

There was zero-*ss mental preparation done on Saki's part.

It felt like they'd straight-up skipped a million milestones all at once.

Even so, there was a part of Saki that wanted to just drown in this vibe forever.

But obviously, that wasn't gonna fly.

The leftover logs in the bonfire had turned into charcoal, flashin' with a tiny-*ss red glow.

Since that much time had ticked by, they finally managed to get a tiny-*ss bit of their cool back.

By the time they noticed, their surroundin's had turned pitch-*ss black.

"S-So, anyway, please straight-up take this―"

"Oh, y-yeah… …Murao-san?"

"―!"

And then, out of nowhere, Saki noticed somethin' was straight-up off.

Saki pulled back the apron she'd been right on the verge of handin' over to Hayato.

Catchin' a glimpse of Hayato looking a tiny-*ss bit bummed out totally-*ss made Saki's heart skip a beat, but she tightened up her relaxed expression in a split second, scannin' the area as she asked a question.

"Um, where'd Haruki-san go…?"

"Huh… …come to think of it, Haruki's straight-up not here, is she? Where the heck did she wander off to?"

Before either of them had even noticed, Haruki was completely-*ss gone from the spot.

There was no d*mn way to tell why Haruki'd disappeared.

To Saki, Haruki was an existence that was straight-up hard to put into words.

On the outside, Haruki looked like a total-*ss elegant, beautiful girl. But on the inside, she was crazy-*ss friendly, and she'd built a bond with Hayato that hadn't changed a single bit since they were total kids.

Even lookin' at it straight from Saki's eyes, it was total-*ss crystal clear that Hayato was a special existence to Haruki.

Considerin' the situation Haruki was put in, there was probably somethin' way too d*mn complicated to even put into a single word.

And most definitely, as a member of the opposite gender, too.

Saki tightly-*ss hugged the apron against her chest.

The whole reason Saki'd been able to close the distance with Hayato after they'd grown apart was completely-*ss thanks to Haruki.

This exact situation was obviously-*ss set up by Haruki.

"Big Bro, we actually put this birthday present together each workin' on it, I along with Haruki-san."

"Wait, Haruki too…?"

"Yeah! So, like, when handin' this over, it's straight-up no good unless I'm doin' it together with Haruki-san!"

That was a fierce-*ss pride that Saki absolutely-*ss refused to back down on.

Because if Haruki didn't, Saki felt like she wouldn't be able to stand proud right by Haruki's side anywhere down the road.

"Let's go look for Haruki-san!"

"M-Murao-san?!"

Grabbin' Hayato's hand while he was still completely-*ss stunned, Saki took off runnin'.

◇◇◇

The pale blue light of the moon filtered straight through the gaps in the trees.

Saki scanned the area as she dashed straight down the shrine's stone steps.

The exact same unchangin' scenery Saki'd been starin' at since the day she was born spread out right before her eyes.l

The trees, the mountains—they felt just like a total-*ss prison. Yeah, there was definitely-*ss a time when Saki used to think exactly like that.

But now, Saki straight-up knew that the world was burstin' with crazy-*ss vibrant colors and shinin' bright.

Yet, even while wishin' Saki could close the distance and get closer, she'd just been standin' by watchin', doin' absolutely-*ss nothin', spendin' her days completely stalled out just like back in the day.

And then, out of nowhere, that unexpected-*ss breakup hit Saki one day.

There's no d*mn way Saki'll ever forget the total sense of loss she felt at that exact moment.

Saki could straight-up see a future where their bond was completely cut off for good.

In a moment like that, who was the one who actually reached out and pulled Saki along?

The group chat, hangin' out, the birthday present.

Oh, Saki was seriously always just lettin' herself get swept away by that kindness.

Most definitely.

If Haruki didn't straight-up change right here and now, Saki'd end up carryin' this total-*ss regret with her for the rest of her d*mn life.

That's exactly why Saki was takin' off runnin' right now.

"Murao-san, even if we're lookin' for Haruki, where the heck are we goin'?! Do you even have a single d*mn lead?!"

"I have no idea! But I straight-up know!"

"Which one is it?!"

"Ahaha!"

Even to Saki herself, those words were straight-up kind of ridiculous.

But they just came flyin' out naturally along with a sudden burst of laughter.

The kind of place Haruki would head to at a time like this.

That was definitely-*ss the hideout she used to escape to back in the day, whenever Haruki was making a face she straight-up didn't want Hayato to see.

A total-*ss top secret spot Haruki'd quietly shared only with Saki.

For a split second, Saki hesitated about whether it was straight-up cool to drag Hayato along, but she chose to completely-*ss ignore that thought.

"This place is…"

Hayato's suspicious-*ss voice drifted over from behind Saki's back.

And honestly, no wonder—because this exact spot used to be a total-*ss special place for the two of them (both Hayato and Haruki) back in the day.

Pushin' through the overgrown weeds and breaking out of the path blocked by the dense-*ss trees, sure enough, there was Haruki, standin' completely-*ss still while lookin' up at the sky.

Illuminated by the moon and starlight alongside the nighttime sunflowers, Haruki looked like a crazy-*ss beautiful and vibrant single flower.

It was a mystical-*ss sight, lookin' exactly like a snapshot cut straight out of a paintin' or a fairy tale, makin' Haruki hesitate to even take a d*mn breath.

But that only lasted a split second; Saki sharp-*ss narrowed her naturally sleepy eyes, locking her gaze dead-on Haruki, and raised her voice to straight-up rip apart the heavy, almost ritualistic silence in the air.

"Haruki-san!"

"―!? Saki-chan… …and, Hayato, too…"

Haruki was completely-*ss shocked the second she noticed them standin' there.

Taking one good look at Haruki's face, Saki's eyes went wide as she straight-up gasped for air.

Haruki was cryin'.

There weren't any d*mn tear stains left on Haruki's face, and she wasn't makin' a single sound either, but without a doubt, she was straight-up cryin'.

Most definitely.

Back when Haruki was a total kid, runnin' away to hide in this exact spot, she must have been cryin' lookin' exactly like that.

And that was precisely why Saki found that whole sight to be,

So d*mn,

For absolutely-*ss no reason,

Somethin' Saki completely and utterly hated.

Pressin' her fist tight against her suffocatin'-*ss chest, Saki marched straight over, closin' the distance toward where Haruki was standin'.

"U-Um, Saki-chan, what's goin' on? Th-The present…"

"Haruki-san, there's somethin' I need to straight-up tell you."

"Oh, yeah. Wh-What is it?"

"I straight-up came here to pick a fight with you!"

"S-Saki-chan?!"

"Take this!"

"―!?"

"M-Murao-san?!"

And with that, Saki swung her hand way up and—smack—tapped Haruki's cheek so softly it felt just like a total-*ss caress.

Haruki blinked her eyes in total confusion while starin' right into Saki's face.

"Huh? Wait, what? Um, a fight?"

"Yeah, a fight. I'm even gonna straight-up pull your cheeks like this!"

"Sha-Shahihyan?!"

This time, Haruki's cheeks were bein' pulled and stretched wide open.

Just like the light-*ss slap from before, this thing felt like nothin' more than an innocent, cute-*ss playful teasin'.

But Saki's eyes were dead-*ss serious.

"When you told me you wanted to get close, Haruki-san, I was so d*mn happy! Becomin' buddies and hangin' out together over the last few days has been crazy-*ss fun… …I seriously love you so much, Haruki-san! It's exactly because I want us to be real-*ss buddies… …that's why I'm pickin' a fight with you!"

Without wastin' any d*mn time pickin' her words, Saki threw them straight-*ss out, screamin' exactly what was on her mind. A thin layer of tears was straight-up welling up in her eyes too.

Saki knew d*mn well she was being completely-*ss emotional. Even the stuff comin' out of her mouth was kind of a scrambled mess.

But even so, she just couldn't straight-up keep it in.

"So stop walkin' on eggshells and holdin' yourself back around me, you total-*ss idiot!"

"…Oh."

Haruki's face completely-*ss crumpled and distorted, lookin' exactly like a mask that had just cracked wide open.

There was definitely-*ss no way any good would come from keepin' things just the way they were.

If you change yourself, the world changes with you―Saki had straight-up learned that fact when she was just a little kid.

But lookin' back, until now Saki'd just been too d*mn scared of change, terrified of gettin' hurt, and had ended up doin' absolutely-*ss nothin'.

Changin' yourself is a crazy-*ss, terrifyin' thing to do.

But even so, Saki'd straight-up learned the hard way two months ago that it was way the heck better than carryin' around a mountain of regret.

That's exactly why Saki swallowed her fears of being a total nuisance or gettin' hated by others, and took a massive-*ss step forward.

"I'm gonna straight-up be selfish right now!"

"S-Saki-chan?!"

Forcin' her way in, Saki grabbed Haruki's hand—the one holdin' the smartphone case—and stood right up next to Haruki.

Selfish―At that exact word, Haruki's shoulders gave a sharp-*ss twitch, but Saki completely-*ss ignored it and let out a tiny-*ss cough to clear the air and reset the mood.

"I straight-up refuse to hand over this present unless I'm doin' it together with you, Haruki-san!"

"Huh, oh…"

Nudged along by Saki, the two of them held the present out straight-*ss in front of Hayato together.

Hayato accepted it, looking a tiny-*ss bit overwhelmed.

"Oh, um, thanks, Haruki… …and, Murao-san."

"I straight-up hate that too."

"…Huh?"

"I'm the only one you call Murao-san. Everyone else calls each other by their nicknames, so it straight-up sucks that I'm the only one bein' treated like a total-*ss stranger!"

"Oh, right, Saki-san…"

"…Okay."

Even though Saki'd just blurted out that selfish-*ss demand on pure momentum, her face completely-*ss flushed red the second Hayato actually said her nickname.

As Saki went total-*ss quiet right there, a serious vibe started driftin' through the air, but Haruki reached out and squeezed her hand with a shy-*ss smile.

So Saki squeezed that hand right back with all her d*mn might, and keepin' that exact momentum goin', she forcefully-*ss grabbed Hayato's hand too.

Because when Saki put herself on the scales inside her own heart, she straight-up wanted to stand on equal terms with both Haruki and Hayato.

"I'm goin' to the exact-*ss same high school as you guys! Absolutely! Because I don't just love Haruki-san, I crazy-*ss love both Big Bro and Hime-chan too… …so, Haruki-san, Big Bro―!"

That's exactly why Saki made up her d*mn mind to change.

Doing it overnight was probably out of the question.

Things might not even pan out straight-*ss well.

But even so, she proudly-ass shouted this resolution out loud, straight-up being honest and selfish with her own heart.

"―From now on, you better treat me with that same energy, too!"
