Part Three"―Seriously, Your Vibe Hasn't Changed a Bit Since the Old Days!"Chapter 113Go Ahead and Be as Much of a Burden as You Want. Just, Please, Don't Make Me Worry Like That
Aside from Clock Plaza, Shine Spirits City's also got this massive exhibition hall.
It hosts everythin' from business shows and local fairs to character events and even dōjinshi markets. Lookin' at the place, Iori had even muttered with a dead-serious face, 'Cosplay, huh...'
It's tucked away in a quiet corner of the City, so when there ain't no events goin' on, it's pretty much a ghost town, just like right now. Basically, it’s the perfect spot to chill if you're tryin' to avoid the crowds.
"You okay? Here."
Hayato handed over a bottle of tea and took a seat right next to Haruki.
"Oh, yeah, thanks... ...Wait, where'd both Kaidō and Mori-kun go?"
"They said they'd head over here after they hook up with both Himeko and Isami-san."
"...I see."
Looks like both of 'em were lookin' out for us in their own way.
Without sayin' a word to each other, they both just quietly took a sip of their tea.
A light breeze from the skyscrapers brushed past the bench, which was perfectly placed in the shade of some carefully planted trees.
Lookin' up, Haruki saw white clouds driftin' by. Scanin' the area, it was a far cry from Tsukinose—no woods or mountains here, just cold-ass buildins' and man-made structures everywhere.
The view in front of Haruki's eyes had changed since back in the day. But just like before, Hayato was right there by her side, keepin' it quiet and just leanin' in.
―Exactly like the new promise they made the day they reunited.
Haruki stole a quick glance at Hayato's profile.
Even though Haruki'd talked big about wantin' to be special, to be number one, and to get stronger, she'd ended up in this total mess. Nothin' was goin' according to plan. She felt like such a loser. She let out one massive sigh.
"...Ngh."
Right then, Haruki chugged her tea like she was tryin' to swallow all those weak-*ss feelins' along with it.
But Hayato wasn't gonna let Haruki slide that easily.
"—Was it about Takura Mao?"
"Gack!? Cough, hack, wheeze..."
"My bad! Totally picked the wrong time to ask!"
"It's... ...cough... ...I'm fine..."
Hayato totally blindsided Haruki. She ended up chokin' on her drink, and with teary eyes, she gave him a sharp glare.
But the second Haruki saw how worried Hayato looked, she felt awkward as heck and had to look away.
"Haruki..."
Hayato's eyes were filled with nothing but concern for Haruki. It made her feel warm inside, but at the same time, she felt kinda guilty for makin' him worry.
With all that weight on her chest, Haruki started mumbin' out what'd happened back there, bit by bit.
"...Honestly, I don't really get it myself. Back at the Satō Airi event, some man who seemed to know about both me and Takura Mao called out to me. I just lost Mom's head and didn't know what to do, so..."
"So that's what happened..."
"Ahaha, I guess I'm still not makin' much sense. Aside from the people back in Tsukinose, hardly anyone should even know I exist, so my mind just went totally blank, and, well..."
That was exactly how Haruki felt deep down. She looked down and let out a dry-*ss laugh. Even she thought she was bein' weird, but she just couldn't put it into words right.
Haruki barely knew anythin' about that man―and honestly, she didn't know much about her own Mom either. She couldn't help but scowl.
"...My Mom, y'know, this was the second time she collapsed and ended up in the hospital."
"Wait, Hayato...?"
"I mean, it's not like Mom's gonna die or anythin'. But there are some after-effects. Her fingers aren't totally paralyzed, but she can't move 'em right. She's bustin' her *ss in rehab right now, though."
"..."
Talk about a total 180 on the topic.
And it's not like the kinda stuff you just go tellin' anybody either.
Haruki's eyes went wide as she looked up at Hayato, but his gaze was fixed on somethin' way off in the distance. He started talkin' a mile a minute after that.
"Even after rehab, Mom probably won't be able to live like she used to. I'm probably gonna get dragged into a lot of drama. But I don't really care about all that, I mean, ugh, how do I even put this!"
"Whoa! Hayato, stop!?"
After spittin' all that out real fast, Hayato just started messin' up Haruki's hair like crazy, probably 'cause he was feelin' all types of ways.
While Haruki was busy complainin' about Hayato's sudden-*ss move, he kept lookin' away, his face turnin' beet red all the way to his ears as he snapped at her.
"Look, go ahead and be as much of a burden as you want. Just, please, don't make me worry like that."
"Huh? A... ...Au..."
Those words were packed with Hayato's straight-up, honest feelins'.
It was just as much of a mess as Haruki's explanation from before, but man, Hayato's true intentions hit home perfectly.
That's why it slid right into Haruki's heart without even tryin'. She could feel it deep down. It totally filled her up inside.
"..."
"..."
The heat comin' from Hayato's palm on Haruki's head was so damn warm that it started meltin' her frozen heart. That warmth spread through her whole body until she was burnin' up. Her head, where he was actually touchin' her, felt like it was literally boilin' over.
But for some reason, Haruki was stoked about it, even though she was embarrassed as heck. She didn't know what to do with herself and couldn't stop fidgetin'. She just wanted to stay soaked in this vibe forever.
Both of 'em were lookin' away with their faces turnin' beet red. But even so, they stayed connected just through Hayato's palm on Haruki's head. Just thinkin' about how they looked was honestly pretty hilarious.
Because of that, both Haruki and Hayato couldn't help but let out a little smile.
It was the same kinda scene they'd played out a million times since they were little kids.
The tension finally melted away thanks to their usual back-and-forth.
Feelin' a bit more relaxed, Haruki started talkin' smack just to tease Hayato, cover up her embarrassment, and act a little spoiled all at once.
"Ugh, Hayato, for real? You're totally treatin' me like your little sis (Hime-chan) again, aren't you?"
"...I mean, you were born a year before Himeko, so it makes sense."
"So cocky... ...whatever, I guess it's fine. But don't go doin' this to anyone else, okay? It'd just be a nuisance for 'em."
"I ain't gonna. Because, Haruki... ...for me, you've... ...well, you've been someone special for a long-*ss time now."
"!! O-Oh, I see..."
"Y-Yeah..."
An even more ticklish vibe started flowin' between 'em. Their faces, which had been all stiff and tense, finally started to soften up. It felt all fuzzy in Haruki's chest. But hey, it didn't feel bad at all.
"Haru-chan! Haru-chan, Haru-chan, Haru-chan! Guess what? It was so sick! I was like, right there! I didn't win the lottery or anythin', but it was my first time shakin' hands with a real-life celebrity!"
""!!?""
Suddenly, Himeko's hyped-up voice came blastin' in. Both Hayato and Haruki jumped like they'd been electrocuted, instantly rippin' themselves apart and lookin' away in a panic.
Lookin' closer, it wasn't just Himeko flailin' her arms around like crazy; Kazuki, Iori, and Isami Ema were all there too. Looks like the whole squad finally hooked back up.
Hayato scratched his head like a madman, stood up, and held out his hand.
"Guess we should get goin' too, huh?"
"...Yeah!"
And with a grin as bright as a little kid's, Haruki reached out and took his hand.
Author's Notes:
Today's the day! "Kaiwa mo shinai Tsurego no Imouto ga Naganen Baka yatte kita Netoge no Fure datta" is officially out! I really wanna keep the sequels comin', so please show some love!
I've gone back and fixed a ton of stuff, basically givin' it a massive overhaul! The Kakuyomu version is based on the very first draf, so definitely go check it out if you just wanna get a feel for the story!
Startin' next time, the WN version (of Tenbin) is movin' into the final act of Part Three, the Pool Arc. But since I'm bustin' my ass on the work for Volume 2's physical release, the deadlines are gettin' pretty tight. Because of that, the update schedule might get a bit messy. Based on the meetings, Volume 2 might end up lookin' way different from the WN version? I'm gonna do my best to deliver somethin' even more hype!
Oh! I'm totally waitin' for fan letters for both of my works! They really keep me goin'!
Yep, that's right!
Even if your feedback or fan letters are just "Meow," that's totally cool with me!
Meow!
