"―From Now On, You Better Treat Me with That Same Energy, Too!"
Chapter 141
Someone Special
A little while later.
Minamo found herself bein' led to a certain cafe by Kazuki, who'd finished packin' up his gear and changin' clothes.
"Wait, is this..."
A store with a totally-*ss traditional Japanese vibe and servers rushin' around in those iconic arrow-patterned hakama uniforms.
It was Okashizukasa Shiro, a place that was always a hot-*ss topic in Minamo's classroom.
Of course, Minamo had seen how crazy-*ss busy it got whenever she went to visit her Grandpa.
But even though it was summer break, since it was a weekday and past the lunch rush, there were actually some empty seats scattered around.
"Talkin' while standin' sucks, so I figured a chill spot would be better... ...plus, I made you walk quite a bit, so this one's on me."
"N-No way! You really don't have to do that!"
"Haha, it's all good, for real."
"U-Um..."
Minamo scrambled to keep up with Kazuki, who was walkin' into the shop like he totally-*ss owned the place.
It was Minamo's first time actually steppin' foot inside.
It's not like Minamo wasn't down for it.
But for a shy-*ss girl like Minamo, walkin' into a cafe (some fancy-*ss space) all by herself was way too high a hurdle to clear.
Minamo sneaked a glance at Kazuki.
Tall, lean, and total-*ss eye candy, Kazuki'd been drawin' eyes from every single girl on the street the whole way here.
Even right-*ss now, Kazuki was soaking up all the hot stares inside the shop.
Standin' right next to a boy like that, tryin' not to get twitchy was pretty much impossible.
"Welco—wait, Kazuki!? And you brought a girl!?"
"Hey, Iori-kun. With Mitake-san, well... ...let's just say it's a bit complicated."
"Eh, oh, um... ...nice to meet you!"
"Yo, don't bow to me, you're the customer!?"
The second they cleared the curtains, they got blasted with a shocked-*ss greeting.
The bright-haired server throwing casual lines at Kazuki was Iori.
But both Minamo and Iori had zero connection. She could only tell from the vibe in front of her that these two were tight-*ss bros.
Alright, now what?
While Minamo was standin' there totally-*ss lost, Iori caught a glimpse of Kazuki's face, went wide-eyed, locked into a serious expression, and scratched his head like, "Man, here we go again."
"Oh, in that case, that raised tatami spot way in the back corner can keep you guys outta everyone's sight."
"Lifesaver, Iori-kun. Thanks."
"Don't sweat it, but you better spill the deets later, alright?"
"Only the stuff I'm actually allowed to talk about."
With that, Iori led them to a spot that was hard-ass to see even from the shop's entrance. It was way far from the other customers, too, so nobody would overhear their voices. It was the perfect-ass table for diggin' into some complicated drama.
The second Minamo kicked off her loafers and took a seat, Kazuki handed Minamo the menu.
"Wow!"
Catching Minamo's eye was a crazy-*ss colorful spread of traditional Japanese sweets.
There was kingyoku jelly shaped like goldfish swimmin' in a tank, daifuku stuffed with summer fruits like watermelon and mango, and rakugan sugar candies molded into seasonal flowers like hydrangeas.
Minamo's eyes totally-*ss lit up lookin' at how gorgeous everything was.
But a second later, Minamo scrunched up her eyebrows.
There were way too many choices, and Minamo was totally-*ss eye-shoppin' back and forth, completely stuck.
"I'd say the Kuzukiri Matcha Parfait is the way to go."
"Huh?"
"I had someone hype it up to me before, sayin' how the smooth-*ss slide of the kuzukiri down your throat is super refreshin', and the bitter-sweet vibe of the matcha is straight-up summer perfection."
"Oh, right. Okay, I'll go with that then."
"Excuse me! Can we get two Kuzukiri Matcha Parfaits, please—"
Then, Kazuki threw out a suggestion like he was throwin' Minamo a total-*ss lifeline.
Since Minamo was totally-*ss stuck anyway, she figured she'd just luck out and roll with it.
While Kazuki was puttin' in the order, Minamo took another quick-*ss look around the shop.
The black plastered pillars and beams, clashin' with the white walls, set a super-*ss chill mood, and those servers in the modern-traditional arrow-patterned hakama uniforms were flyin' all over the place.
Man, no wonder everyone talks about this spot. Minamo even thought to herself that she'd kinda wanna try wearin' that uniform, too.
The second that thought crossed her mind, Minamo gave her bangs a little tug.
Is this actually okay?
Does it look weird or what?
Usually, Minamo is totally-*ss clueless when it comes to fashion, so while she was glad she went with this hairstyle today of all days, she couldn't help but compare herself to the other customers who looked crazy-*ss shiny.
"Oh yeah, your hair's lookin' different today, huh?"
"Huh!? U-Um, well... ...does it look... ...weird?"
"Not at all! It suits you perfectly and it's crazy-*ss cute."
"Argh..."
Gettin' het hair praised by Kazuki with that charming-ass, friendly smile of his made Minamo's face flush bright-*ss red from embarrassment in a split second, and she shrunk her shoulders right up.
Minamo couldn't even look Kazuki in the eye, just nervously rubbin' her knees together under the table.
But hey, Kazuki did give Minamo a real-*ss compliment. She had to say thanks or somethin'—and just as she timidly looked up with that thought, she locked eyes with him, who had a face that totally-*ss screamed, "Oh cr*p, I messed up.".
"Oh, um, sorry... ...I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but what I just said... ...well, I wasn't tryin' to hit on you or anythin' like that, I just straight-up thought so, or rather, err..."
"Huh!? U-Um, well... ...I'm just not used to people tellin' me stuff like that, so I guess I was shocked, or more like totally-*ss embarrassed...!"
"O-Oh, I see, well that's a relief then! Haha!"
"A-Ahaha..."
Both Kazuki and Minamo kept crossin' wires, carryin' on the most awkward-*ss convo ever. Both of 'em had these stiff-*ss smiles pasted on their faces.
"Y'know, I try to be careful, but for some reason, different people take it differently, or it ends up givin' 'em some weird-*ss expectations."
"Could it be that Takakura-senpai from earlier was like that too?"
"...Yeah, with Takakura-senpai, well... ...a bunch of stuff happened back in middle school, too."
Kazuki scrunched his face up bitterly, a deep-*ss frown cuttin' into his forehead.
To Minamo, that look for a split second overlapped perfectly with the self-deprecating-ass face Haruki would make from time to time.
But even so, Minamo didn't know what the heck she was supposed to say. For starters, today was the first time she'd actually talked to Kazuki for real.
A heavy-*ss silence settled over the table.
But that lasted for like a second before a crisp-*ss voice full of exasperation blew the vibe away.
"Whatcha pullin' that weird-*ss face for, Kazuki?"
"!? Oh, Iori-kun."
"Eh, um... ...wow!"
"Alright, here's your Kuzukiri Matcha Parfait. Thanks for waitin'."
Starin' right at the Kuzukiri Matcha Parfait that just got dropped on the table, Minamo clasped her hands together in front of her chest, her eyes totally-*ss sparkling.
Stacked with layers of kuzukiri, shiratama dango, and anko red bean paste, and topped off with matcha and black sesame ice cream plus whipped cream, the crazy-*ss vivid contrast of green, white, and black practically screamed summer chill.
Man, no wonder Kazuki hyped this thing up.
Iori just gave a wry smile and instantly cleared out to the back. Looked like he had zero-*ss intention of tryin' to eavesdrop on 'em.
Is it cool to start eatin' now? While Minamo was thinkin' about it, she peeked at Kazuki's face, and he just flashed a big-*ss grin like "Go ahead" while holdin' up his long-handled parfait spoon.
"Down the hatch! ...Oh man!?"
The very first thing that hit Minamo's mouth was the perfect-*ss level of cold.
It sucked the heat right outta Minamo's flushed-ass body, and then the fresh bitterness and sweetness of the matcha started spreadin' all over. The smooth-*ss slide of that kuzukiri was straight-up to die for.
"This is crazy-*ss delicious!"
"Yeah, this really is good. Heh, no wonder she went all out hypin' up the flavor like that."
With that, Kazuki's face softened into a big-*ss grin as he pictured somethin' in his head.
Kazuki was clearly reminiscin' about the time someone recommended it to him.
Whoever that person was must've been someone crazy-*ss special, 'cause Kazuki's smile was so genuine it could make anyone lookin' at him crack a smile too. It was just like the way Haruki looks whenever she talks about Hayato.
"Oh, could it be that the person who recommended this is someone special to you, Kaidō-san?"
"Gasp...!? Cough, cough-cough-cough, ugh...!"
"A-Are you okay!?"
