Himeko was havin' a blast over at the wave pool.
I mean, it's still a pool, but just addin' waves makes the whole experience totally different.
As for Himeko, while she was floatin' around in her tube, she was busy as heck watchin' everyone, especially the couples.
Himeko totally lived for those accidental moments when the waves would knock a couple into each other—she'd just soak it all in.
"Look, look, Kazuki-san! Check out that couple over there! The boy's swimmin' with his girl on his back... ...Gah, they're so lovey-dovey, it's insane! I totally think Ema-san and her boy should get all mushy like that too, don'tcha think?"
"Ahaha, I guess so."
By the way, both Iori and Isami Ema were just chillin' at the water's edge, sittin' with their knees up and splashin' each other every now and then. It was actually pretty sweet to watch.
Himeko's energy was high as ever.
Since the place was crawlin' with couples gettin' cozy, Himeko was spottin' and reportin' everythin'—like people tryin' to squeeze into the same tube, or couples starin' into each other's eyes until the waves just swept 'em away, or gettin' wrecked tryin' to chase a beach ball together.
And there was Kazuki, watchin' over Himeko with that same old smile on his face.
"So, both Big Bro and Haru-chan are takin' forever, huh?"
"Hayato-kun can be a bit of a meddler, y'know. I bet he's out there helpin' some girl in trouble and gettin' hit on in return... ...sounds like somethin' he'd definitely get into."
"Ahaha, Big Bro gettin' hit on? Like I said before, there's no way. He's such a country bumpkin, it's not even funny~"
"You never know, right? I mean, Nikaidō-san was worried enough to go lookin' for Hayato-kun."

A good chunk of time had passed since Hayato headed off to grab a spare tube.
By now, they'd pretty much exhausted everythin' a person or two could do for fun in this wave pool.
While Himeko was havin' that convo and wonderin' what to get into once they linked back up with Hayato, Kazuki suddenly threw a question her way.
"Seems like Himeko-chan only has eyes for the couples. Are you actually into that kinda stuff?"
"Hmm, I dunno? Guess you could say likin' girl talk about romance is just a girl's instinct... ...though, well, Haru-chan is a whole other story."
"Ahaha, so it's an instinct, huh?"
"What about you, Kazuki-san? I mean, you were legit gettin' hit on just a bit ago. If you wanted a girlfriend, you could probably snag one in a heartbeat, right?"
"...Honestly, I'm good without all that for now."
"Wh-What a waste!"
"Someone like Himeko-chan seems like you'd be popular too. Don'tcha ever think about gettin' a boyfriend?"
"Huh?"
A totally goofy sound popped out of Himeko's mouth. That question came straight outta left field.
Sure, lookin' at how Himeko'd been actin' today, Kazuki's question was a natural follow-up, but for some reason, her chest felt a little tight.
Boyfriend.
As Himeko chewed on that word, she realized her brows were startin' to knit together.
But Himeko had no d*mn clue why she was feelin' like that.

"..."
Himeko locked eyes with Kazuki, who was givin' her that searchin' smile, but she just tilted her head with a look of total confusion. Still, her heart was startin' to race a bit.
Right as Himeko was strugglin' with those weird-*ss feelings she couldn't name, a couple of familiar voices came crashin' into her ears.
"Yo, there was no reason to go and smack me out of nowhere!"
"Because it's Hayato's fault, okay!"
"I don't even know what you're talkin' about!"
"I mean, seriously, since we were kids, Hayato has always―"
"Oh yeah? Well, Haruki, you've always been―"
Himeko looked over to see what the heck was goin' on, and sure enough, there were her big bro and his childhood buddy headin' their way, barkin' at each other (basically just play-fightin').
Himeko's cheek twitched at the sight of this totally normal-*ss scene, and she exchanged a dry-*ss laugh with Kazuki.
Sigh. Himeko let out a long breath. Even though they were tradin' insults, the two of 'em were laughin'. Or at least, it looked that way to her.
And that's why Haruki's face right now started blurrin' together with the Haruki from back in the day.
(...Oh.)
Everythin' finally just clicked into place for Himeko.
"Hey, Kazuki-san. Y'know, I actually had someone I was crazy about."
"...Huh?"
"But now, no matter what I do, they're just totally out of my reach. So I guess for now, I'm good with stayin' away from all that romance stuff too."
"Oh, I-I see..."
A laugh suddenly escaped Himeko's lips. Her hand naturally went to her chest, where the faint, sweet ache still lingered. That smile of hers looked like she was just one second away from burstin' into tears.
Kazuki's eyes shook as he stared at Himeko. He looked like he'd been hit with a total curveball.
Gettin' a look like that made Himeko realize she'd just spilled some deep-*ss secrets she doesn't usually tell anyone. Feelin' all embarrassed, she just laughed it off and stood up to shake off the awkward vibe.
"Let's get movin', Kazuki-san."
"! O-Oh, right..."
Himeko nudged her big bro's friend (Kazuki), who'd frozen up for some reason, and headed over to where her big bro and their childhood buddy were waitin'.
The second they linked up, the two of 'em started lobbin' these childish-*ss demands at Himeko.
"Oh, Himeko! I need you to be the ref!"
"We haven't decided what we're doin' yet, but it's a showdown, a total showdown! We gotta settle this once and for all!"
"Big Bro, Haru-chan, what is it with you guys all of a sudden...?"
Himeko had no clue what'd gone down.
But the sight of these two growlin' and glarin' at each other with all that fire was somethin' Himeko'd seen a million times since they were little kids.
The long hair and short hair, so different from back then.
The gap in their heights, so different from back then.
The pitch of their voices as they barked at each other, so different from back then.
But just like back in the day, in Himeko's eyes, the two of 'em looked like they belonged right there next to each other, like it was the most natural thing in the world.
So Himeko just let out a long-*ss sigh.
And then, packin' all kinds of hidden meanin' into Himeko's words, she shouted out at them and herself with a totally exasperated look on her face.
"―Seriously, your vibes hasn't changed a bit since the old days!"
