EpilogueWho Decided That Everything That Starts Smoothly Will End Smoothly?
"─We are currently counting the votes. Please be patient until the final results are announced."
The school's public address system could be heard throughout the school grounds. Meanwhile, I was on the roof, tidying up the equipment used for the speech ceremony.
─Today is the day of the Student Council President Election. The ceremony and voting have just ended, and we are now waiting for the vote counting results.
Normally, I would be relaxing in class, but because I was scolded by Toshikyo-sensei at the end of the ceremony, I helped tidy up, even though I had nothing to do with it.
According to Toshikyo-sensei, it was because I was "just within her line of sight," but I think the real meaning was, "Do it as punishment for causing trouble." She must still be holding a grudge about what happened a few days ago. She's been really sensitive lately.
I sighed, put away the folding table, and clapped my hands together.
...Okay, that was the last heavy item. Luckily, I finished before it started raining.
The cloudy sky today was very different from the refreshing summer weather we had been experiencing lately. It felt like summer had taken a step back, and the wind felt cold on my short sleeves.
It was already past club activities hours, but everyone was waiting in their respective classrooms for the results of the Student Council President Election. The field below, which was usually bustling, was empty, and the loud noise from the school building echoed in the distance.
"─Here it is, that's the last one."
"Oh, thank you."
Suddenly, Torisawa appeared with a rolled-up banner under his arm. At first, I had trouble carrying the items by myself, but Torisawa happened to be passing by and offered to help, and we've been working together ever since.
I stored the banner in the designated spot.
"All done, we're finished!"
I sighed and stretched my arms, placing my hands on my hips.
"Don't worry about the final check and locking the door, I'll take care of it. Thank you for your help."
"It's nothing, really."
Torisawa replied casually, his hands still in his pockets.
Torisawa didn't seem to be sweating at all. I wondered where he got that strength from, considering his thin body.
Torisawa smiled and spoke.
"Okay, consider this payment for your services. The result is even more entertaining than I expected."
"Oh, I see."
Writing songs is more than enough, but I feel like I still owe Torisawa something.
"Establishing a new Student Council Officials was really funny, but when you think about it, it was the best choice. For people like that, it's better not to have restrictions like traditions and customs."
Torisawa continued, clearly feeling satisfied with himself.
Come to think of it─
"Torisawa, you said before that you weren't interested in Hino— Sachi herself, right?"
"Hmm?"
"So, what do you get out of all this? Honestly, I don't see how you benefit from it."
I voiced my doubts. Considering Torisawa's personality, he wasn't the type of person who would want to improve the school or help others; he was too proactive to be bored.
Torisawa shrugged and loosened his tie before answering.
"Well, I can only enjoy things that are beyond my understanding."
Things that are beyond Torisawa's understanding...?
I furrowed my brow in confusion, and Torisawa continued casually.
"Being too sharp has its weaknesses. I can predict most things."
Wow, even when Torisawa praises himself, it doesn't feel annoying at all...
"Wait, so you can read other people's minds? Or predict the future?"
"Of course not."
Yeah, I know that. But sometimes, Torisawa's insights are so sharp that I get curious.
"In other words, I can somehow know how something will end. Or what its maximum limit is, including myself."
Torisawa snorted, sounding unimpressed.
"I can see boundaries in everything. And once I see them, I can't help but be aware of them. As a result, most things remain within my own boundaries."
Boundaries...
It was a bit abstract and difficult to understand, but I felt I understood what Torisawa meant.
So, you envy those who don't care about boundaries... ...No, those who don't even think about their existence, right?
Hearing those words, I was shocked.
That wasn't like Torisawa to say.
"The first one is that person. Even so, I'm annoyed that he's thinking about quitting, so I want to bring him back by any means necessary. That's all," Torisawa said.
Then Torisawa snorted.
"So, this time everything went pretty smoothly. I don't know how far we can go from here."
Then, Torisawa turned around and started walking toward the exit.
Torisawa's steps seemed light and cheerful.
"Oh—"
Then, as if suddenly remembering something, Torisawa turned back and said—
"—So, that's it. I'm counting on you, Number Two."
Torisawa smirked, lifting one corner of his lips in a cynical smile.
Raising one hand, Torisawa walked away with quick, brisk steps.
"...Torisawa really handled it in a cool way from start to finish."
To be honest, I felt the praise for Torisawa was a bit excessive─
I'll do my best to live up to those expectations.
"─Sorry for the wait. We will announce the results of the Student Council President Election."
Oh, looks like it's over. I have to get back to class.
While listening to the broadcast, I thought about what would happen next.
─Welcoming the new "heroine" named Sachi.
Of course, the more enjoyable daily rom-com will begin from here.
My "Rom-Com Project" is accelerating and continuing.
