Extra 1All Alone
I've always loved having fun since I was a kid. Trying new things is exciting, completing difficult tasks is exhilarating, and doing something a little dangerous is thrilling.
I especially liked the Shopping District Festival, which was full of fun and excitement. I would get so excited about the festivals that I couldn't sleep at night all year round. At home, my parents would often nag me with "Don't do this!" and "Don't do that!," so it was fun to come up with ideas for festivals that everyone could participate in and build them together.
—And then, I found the same fun.
At Grandpa's urging, I visited the Kyou-Nishi High School Cultural Festival, where I found huge murals made from milk cartons, makeshift stalls made by arranging tables, a haunted house made from cardboard in a classroom, and stage performances that got everyone in the place excited...
I realized that a familiar place, a school that was supposed to be for studying, could be an enchanting and fun place. It was at Kyou-Nishi High School that I learned this for the first time.
—I want to make my school a fun place, like this.
If I could have fun every day at school, it would be like making the whole world fun. The thought of pursuing and realizing this goal gives me goosebumps.
That's why I—
Determined to do my best to make it happen.
'Sacchan, you're amazing!'
'PE is really fun!'
'I won't lose next time!'
—In elementary school. Everyone was excited and agreed with my idea of making lessons more fun.
Of course, it was so much fun, every day was the best, and I wished it could last forever.
'Sachi, this is crazy! You're going to convince that teacher?!'
'Things are getting heated now!'
'My cousin works at the music store, so I can ask him for help!'
'Are you serious?! This will go down in history, right?!'
—In middle school.
I struggled to change the very boring school events. Sometimes I was gossipped, and the teachers gave me disapproving looks, but the events we made were really fun, and everyone was very satisfied.
—And then, I enrolled Kyou-Nishi High School, which I had long admired.
With more freedom than in middle school, I was determined to make this school more fun, to the point where the history of festivals paled in comparison. I soon joined the Student Council and began to reform, coming up with new ideas day and night without sleep deprivation.
...However, one day.
A friend who had worked with me on the Music Festival in middle school said this:
'Sachi, maybe you should act a little more mature.'
—Huh? What do you mean?
'Well, you're in high school now. I think it's time to tone down the childish enthusiasm...'
—Childish?
'Doing whatever you want without any restrictions maybe... ...Well, that's kind of uncool.'
—Uncool... ...maybe?
'There are also University Enrolled Exams to consider. You can't just focus on having fun all the time.'
—But, isn't it more fun this way? If it's more fun, shouldn't we be doing it?
'...Okay, if that's what you want, Sachi. But I think you should pay more attention to the people around you.'
—Hearing that, I realized for the first time.
That everyone around me—
No longer wanted the kind of 'fun' I was looking for.
—That's right, that's it.
As of now, I can do whatever I want, because everyone accepts it.
I could have fun because everyone joined in.
But from now on.
The more I seek fun, the more I get away from others.
The more I want to enjoy it myself, the lonelier I will become.
...Oh, that's right.
That's why I—
